Fall 2: Deadpoint Review (2026): Is It Worth Watching?

And the follow up has arrived, and I know a lot of you have had questions about it. Fall 2: Deadpoint was released on 01/09/2026 in cinema screens, continuing the first narrative as two climbers are stranded in the sky some several thousand feet up, but this time on a mountain in Thailand instead of a decrepit TV transmitter. Really, though?

I had doubted this one right up until I saw it. The first Fall had a pretty tight, pretty simple setup, and it maintained that. How could another 'sequel' possibly go beyond that without becoming a copy?

What Is Fall 2: Deadpoint Actually About?

Fall 2: Deadpoint. It involves two climbers who are stranded on the summit of a mountain through an immensely dangerous climb. The film plays off on all the elements of exposure, vertigo, and impossible odds that made the first film so crazy.

Shifting the action to Mt Kwan gave Peter and Michael Spierig an entirely different visual than the broadcast tower of the original film. The film is 98 minutes long, which I think is ideal for this kind of film. The idea is that the ordeal is quick and lasts just a moment. "Are you down" captures this point, too.

What I do like about this film is that it doesn't go "all the way back to the beginning" again. Instead it depends on all the same elements that made the first film successful, maintaining the elevation, the solitude, the drop-off and then just altering the setting and details enough to make it fresh again. It's a smart way to approach a series based on a fairly thin idea.

The Spierig brothers always have had, and I think still retain, a know-how about genre movies that understand what they are. This isn't a film that's trying to do it all, it's one that's trying to do one thing well, and I think that's a wiser decision for this sequel.

Cast and Performances: Who Carries the Tension?

Harriet Slater plays Jax Hunter and from what we have seen I think she is definitely the emotional centre in this survival story. Virginia Gardner plays Shiloh Hunter and with two Hunters listed in the cast it is probable that the family element is part of the plot and that always raises the stakes in these stories. Arsema Thomas plays Luce, worth remembering if you're keeping track of names.

Tom Brittney plays Jon Platt.

In smaller parts, we have Sahajak Boonthanakit (the Thai Barman), Korakod Yensuk (Large Woman) and Maryna Bennett (Female Teenager). These characters are in the story simply for the purpose of creating the setting (here Thailand), and providing characters for the protagonists to interact with. Once the climb begins, they're no longer needed.

There is also something about this cast list that I think is rather refreshing. It doesn't list the stars you would normally expect. There are no big names to sell the film on, instead it appears to be just a cast of actors who look appropriate for their characters.

This is a more practical decision, considering the paranoid, hyper-real nature of the thriller. They do not detract from the realistic nature of the story, and the fact that the characters are in extreme peril.

Is Fall 2: Deadpoint Worth Watching in 2026?

Absolutely, if you enjoyed the first Fall or you just enjoy a consistently tense and intense survival film, then this is one you should see. Its entire plot concept of being trapped way up in the air with no conventional method of getting down is one that immediately recalls the original, regardless of its quality. If you are the type of viewer that this applies to than you do not need me to tell you to see this.

You will anyway. However I also need to let you know that it is still very early days and it is far too soon to get a proper idea of how people are receiving it. The ratings are still trickling in, and with only 6 votes so far, the film doesn't yet have a vote average worth mentioning. My best bet is that the production, cast and creative team seem to be making a film conscious of its bounds and happy to work within them. If you are after something that will make your palms sweat for 98 minutes this accomplishes that on paper. Is it essential to have seen the original?

It is not vital but it certainly helps; the story is simple enough to enjoy without having seen it. That's my guess, anyway.

This is catering to a market that wants the same degree of tension but for a shorter duration, and that's a niche but reliable market.
